Lameck Onyango's side now have to win their next two games against Uganda and Zimbabwe.
Kenya men's national cricket team succumbed to their first defeat of the ongoing 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup - Africa Qualifiers after going down to the hosts, Namibia by six wickets in a Monday mid-morning matchup at the United and Wanderers Cricket Grounds in Windhoek.
Kenya, who once again lost the opening toss and were forced to bat in the first innings, looked to be on course to limiting the Namibian batting lineup to a lower score than the 105 they had set, only to capitulate to a few uncharacteristic miscues that contributed to the leaders hitting 106 runs in just 15.2 overs.
29 year old Jan Frylinck was the hero for the hosts, as he went for 57 not out in the run chase, ultimately coming up with the game winning boundary from a Pushkar Sharma ball to close Kenya's fourth game in the seven-nation tournament.
"Really good feeling to contribute to my team's success," a beaming Frylinck said post-game. "It was all about taking advantage of the situation we were put in after a rather difficult first innings. Positive feeling now as we head to our next two games."
Vraj Patel was Kenya's source of half of their wickets as he dismissed Namibian skipper Gerhard Erasmus and Loftie Eaton for three and two runs respectively.
With Namibia on the ropes halfway through the second innings at 52-4, they managed to capitalize on two fumbles and wide balls from Kenya in the 12th over, and also took advantage of some dropped balls from the fielders.
"It was a concern because we also gave up a 50 to Frylinck. We will definitely adjust in our next game," Kenyan skipper Lucas Ndandason said on his side's fielding.
Irfan Karim was Kenya's top batter as he went off for 43 runs not out, with the duo of Collins Obuya and Sachin Bhudia registering 15 and 18 runs respectively.
After four games, Kenya sits second on the table with six points, and will next face Uganda on Wednesday, before wrapping up their World Cup quest on Thursday 30 November against Zimbabwe.
